Admission Requirements
International students applying to Saint Mary’s School must possess a strong command of English. We do not offer English as a Second Language (ESL), so our students must be prepared to meet the demands of a competitive curriculum in English. In addition, we are looking for applicants who have a strong desire to engage fully in the Saint Mary’s community, whether through sports, music, dance or clubs. Our goal is to provide an environment where international students truly feel that they are having an “American high school experience” and where English is the common language for all students.
To that end, only 11% of our students are international, ranging from 5-10 international students per grade. Within each grade we are deliberate in selecting a group of students who represent different geographic regions and cultures.
Saint Mary's School welcomes applications from qualified international students. A completed application for admission consists of the following items:
Application deadline is January 30, 2013
- A completed online or paper application
- $100 application fee
- Official high school transcript(s)
- Teacher recommendation forms
- Satisfactory scores on the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT)
- An internet-based TOEFL score of 80 or above. PLEASE NOTE: We do not accept the SLEP
- A personal interview. Interviews can be completed on campus, via SKYPE or with a Saint Mary’s Admission representative travelling to your city.
Applicants will be notified of Admission decisions on March 10, 2013
Enrollment Process
In order to accept our offer of admission, all admitted students are required to complete the online enrollment forms and submit a $1,500 non-refundable enrollment deposit to hold a space in the entering class and in the residence halls. All enrolled international students will be sent their I-20 on May 1 via FedEx. Please do not schedule your visa interview prior to May 15th in order to have time to receive your I-20. If you are currently attending a school in the US and need to have your I-20 transferred, please give your school official the SEVIS code, ATL214F10254000, for Saint Mary’s School.
The following items will be sent to families in early June:
- Heath Forms and Immunization Requirements: You will receive an email from Magnus, a third party provider for our health care services. They will provide you an online link where you can access health forms and immunization requirements. All health forms and immunization records must be completed and/or translated to English. If we receive these forms in another language, you will be charged a translating fee.
- International Health Insurance Information
- Summer Reading Requirements
- Roommate Questionnaire
- Packing List
- Academic School Calendar
- Information about Arrival Dates/Times
- Orientation Schedule
Please review the academic calendar closely, particularly regarding vacation dates. Saint Mary’s does not allow excused absences from class to depart campus early and/or return late. Please make your travel plans accordingly. There are several longer vacations throughout the school year such as Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring Break. Most international students will return home for the long Christmas break; however, during the shorter breaks, international students will often stay in the U.S. with family friends, relatives or other Saint Mary’s students. While it is the students’ and families’ responsibility to make holiday plans, we will be happy to help find a short-term “host family” within the Saint Mary’s community, if needed. The school should be notified well in advance should you desire help in finding somewhere to spend your break.
