For Sebin, a boarding student from Auburn, Georgia, living on campus is all about “the chance to get to know people and get to know them better.” Being part of a close-knit community where she can make new friends and meet people different from herself matters to Sebin.
That’s why she is so excited about boarding at Saint Mary’s School. “You get to hang out with different people. You meet everyone and learn about where they’re from, what they like; you see them every day at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I love it.”
Sebin also likes the chance to get to know her teachers and other adults on campus. “Boarding enriches your experience because you have an expanded classroom outside of the school day. I can ask my math teacher questions over dinner, or ask my English teacher who lives in my dorm for help with a project, or just hang out with the dorm head and her family in their apartment. You get to know everyone, and everyone knows you, too.”
Of course, boarding at Saint Mary’s is also a great way to grow in confidence and independence. As Sebin notes, “Boarding prepares you for college and life. It’s the small stuff – doing your own laundry, cleaning your room, time management, living with other people – all of these experiences will help me when I get to college.”
What would Sebin tell a student thinking about boarding at Saint Mary’s? “I would tell her it’s a great idea! You make friends easily - I love having friends I can talk with, study with, share clothes with – 24/7! You get to meet more people, know your teachers better (and they know you better, too) and adjust to school life more quickly since you’re here all the time. It makes everything easier. It’s great!”
