Meet the SGA: Amber Hunsel, Senior Class President

Posted July 20, 2012

Before they skipped out for summer vacation, we took some time to get to know the newly elected members of the 2012-13 Student Government Association (SGA). Each week, we will introduce new members and share their thoughts on all things Saint Mary's. This week, Amber Hunsel, from Raleigh, NC, who will serve as Senior Class President, joins the mix.

YOUR SMS EXPERIENCE

What is your favorite SMS tradition?
Graduation

What has been your favorite class in the last three years? Why?
English has been my favorite class because it allows for creativity and open discussion.

What class has been the most challenging class thus far? How did you survive?
Math has been the most challenging for me because there is only one correct answer and there is no room for creativity. I survived by going to tutorial almost every day!

Why did you come to SMS?
My sister was here and I loved the all-girls aspect that it had.

ADVICE TO NEW STUDENTS

What advice would you give to a new incoming student?
Be very involved in campus activities and social functions from the beginning - everyone is watching and it is a great way to meet new people and start off your Saint Mary’s experience.

What do you wish someone had told you?
To be more involved from the beginning. SMS has so much to offer and so much to get involved with. Someone could easily just skip out and decide not to participate or attend the activity, but participating makes your SMS experience so much better!

What do you wish you had done sooner?
I wish I had attended more of the functions at SMS. As a day student it is so easy to decide not to attend things, especially on weekends, but as soon as I started to attend them I began to befriend people I hadn’t before and have a better time than when I was staying home.
