Campus springs back to life

Posted August 16, 2012

After a long, hot summer, it is always refreshing to welcome students back to campus. This week kicked off that delightful beginning with the arrival of our international students, fall athletes and student leaders.

A good time was had by all on Tuesday as international students got acquainted with one another and Saint Mary’s on their first day on campus. SMS GAP Prefects were on hand to help the girls feel welcome and an evening Tropical Smoothie social went a long way to making everyone feel at ease. A dinner with Dr. Gillespie on Wednesday evening completed the whirlwind arrival for our international girls and their families. The rest of the week was spent meeting residential faculty and classroom teachers, learning about school rules, and enjoying trips downtown, to North Hills and to Cameron Village.

On Wednesday, the Saints came rolling in! Pre-season practice got underway for most fall sports - field hockey, volleyball and tennis. It was an exciting few days as our new SMS coaches got some quality time with our new and returning Saints athletes. Check out the schedule for upcoming games on the Athletics page.

Meanwhile, Day Prefects hosted an event for new incoming day students on Tuesday. The Candy Shoppe was a huge hit with the girls who spent the afternoon getting acquainted. They played “getting-to-know-you” games, took a campus tour, and got some good advice about being a day student from the Day Prefect blog. Leaving with a bag full of their favorite candy was the cherry on the top of the day!

Everyone at Saint Mary’s is eagerly anticipating the arrival of the rest of our students next week!
