Head of School Welcome
Message from Carol Killebrew
Never before has there been a moment when women's education is so important. We need to hear women's voices; we need women leaders, scientists, engineers, advocates, politicians, and the list goes on. At Saint Mary's, we elevate girls' voices, focus on their strengths, and create a transformational experience for them, tailored for how they learn.
I came to Saint Mary's because I am a product of an all-girls college preparatory school, and I believe it is essential to prepare every girls so she is not only college ready, but life and career ready.
We know girls.
At Saint Mary’s, we challenge girls academically – to be BOLD, to be INSPIRED, to be PREPARED, and to become EXTRAORDINARY.
Since 1842, we have educated young women in an ever-changing world, and Saint Mary’s has changed with it. We are research-driven and relentlessly pursue the best learning and teaching practices for girls. Saint Mary’s inspires girls to step outside their comfort zones, engage their minds, amplify their voices, and discover who they are and who they want to become. One hundred percent of our graduates are accepted into college, and Saint Mary’s girls graduate with stronger academic skills, demonstrate higher science self-confidence, display higher levels of cultural competency, express stronger community involvement, and exhibit increased political engagement.
When girls enroll at 900 Hillsborough Street, they are a part of a long legacy of women; alumnae who have come from every walk of life and from across the U.S. and the world. Here, girls are accepted and empowered in their learning; to grow spiritually and socially. Girls are also recognized for their unique talents, passions, and interests – and those yet to be discovered.
Saint Mary’s girls build lifelong friendships, take advantage of leadership opportunities at every level, experience hands-on learning inside the classroom and beyond our gates, and become a part of a living and learning community with access to an alumnae network of over 10,000 women. With real-world learning experiences, abundant leadership opportunities, a supportive college counseling program, and a wide array of liberal arts subjects, girls have choices in their learning and discover their unique interests and life goals.
There are so many reasons to choose Saint Mary’s School and our all-girls, Episcopal, independent, boarding and day program. From championing the educational needs of females as a group currently underrepresented in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) majors and careers, to our high academic standards that stimulate personal growth and encouraging critical thinking, nurturing intellectual curiosity, and promoting a love of lifelong learning.
But most of all, it’s because girls deserve to live and learn in a community that knows the question isn’t “who’s going to let me?” It’s “who’s going to stop me?”
Looking forward to seeing you at Saint Mary’s,
Head of School
