Global Education
Saint Mary’s School enriches its curriculum with national and international travel programs, offering students transformative experiences that broaden their cultural understanding and apply classroom knowledge in real-world contexts.
Broadening Perspectives
Global travel is a transformative experience for young people as they experience new cultures and demonstrate skills in real-world applications. Saint Mary's offers several travel programs every year designed to enhance classroom curriculum and contribute to identity formation, community building, and intercultural awareness.

Why is travel beneficial for student development?
International travel is a form of global, experiential education that provides students with the opportunity to take risks, explore the unfamiliar, and expand their horizons. Students who travel internationally in high school are statistically more likely to display greater respect for other cultures, stronger problem solving skills, and a deeper knowledge of the complex problems of our world.
What skills do students gain from global experiences?
Students develop a range of skills and insights through global education programs. The Saint Mary’s 10 Key Competencies embody many of the skills including communication, growth mindset, servant leadership, and self-expression. Students return from travel opportunities raving about their experiences!
How do students benefit from on-campus global education?
In addition to international travel, on-campus global education programs are essential to building global competencies with our students. On-campus global education provides students with frequent and consistent access and exposure to global history, global issues, and global cultures. Developing global competencies is like building muscle – it cannot be done in one try, it must be slowly and regularly worked on.
During my time in the Dominican Republic, I was able to find a side of myself I had never before seen. After this trip, I had never felt more grateful for all I have, along with the amazing opportunities Saint Mary's gives us to challenge ourselves outside of the classroom. I know the relationships and memories from this trip will last a lifetime.
