PLEASE NOTE: As we all deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, Saint Mary’s wants to ensure the health and wellbeing of all members of the Saint Mary’s community. In light of North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s state of emergency declaration and recommendations regarding large gatherings, we have cancelled all in-person alumnae events, and we continue to offer virtual events throughout the year. We hope you and your loved ones remain well, healthy, and safe throughout this ordeal. Please know that we look forward to once again hosting in-person events for our alumnae and friends just as soon as we are able to do so.  In the meantime, should you have questions or need additional information, please contact the Development and Alumnae Office at

A prayer for all Americans

Holy One, you know our hearts.

It was you, O God, who created this beautiful land; who sustained our nation through times of division and reconciliation, unrest and quietude, war and peace; who brought us thus far on the way to becoming a more perfect union.

On this day we return to you once again, with sadness in our hearts and tears in our eyes. We need you, all of us – we need your wisdom, your guidance, your justice, your strength.

Help us remember just who and what we are called to be. Purge our selfishness and hatred. Restore in us our highest loyalties as they should be, and not as they currently are. We repent of our tendency to value and heed political party or candidate or elected official above the integrity of the Republic itself. Remind us, O Lord, that we are better than this.

Create in us clean hearts, O God, and restore our dignity, that we might go forth from this moment in truth and righteousness: as Americans first, as partisans later; and as the united People of God, above all. Amen.

This prayer was written by Saint Mary's Chaplain, the Rev. Maggie Stoddard, and prayed with the campus community in our Epiphany Chapel, Jan. 7, 2021.

Following three months of successful in-person learning, from September through November, and as part of the school’s comprehensive 2020-2021 reopening plan, Saint Mary’s students and faculty are now engaged in three weeks of virtual learning and community activities until the Christmas break begins Dec. 18 and again in the first week of January. This year’s plan was designed to safely deliver in-person learning for most of the fall while eliminating travel between home and school during the holidays as the COVID-19 virus has surged nationwide, as anticipated.
