We’ve designed this special site to support new and returning students in their transition to Saint Mary’s for the 2022-2023 school year. Through a series of intentional programs, activities, and events that reinforce Saint Mary’s values, we look forward to welcoming our Saints to 900 Hillsborough Street.
Below are three "entry points" for families: newly enrolled, returning, and international families. Each section of this website is set up specifically for your family's profile based on your enrollment type. The site will continue to be updated over the next several weeks as additional forms, information, and deadlines are shared. (Please check back throughout the summer for updates and/or changes.)

Dear Saint Mary’s Students and Families,
I hope this message finds you enjoying a summer filled with quality time with loved ones, an adventure or two and some fun memory-making moments.
As a relative newcomer to Raleigh with only a week and a half under our belt, my family and I are enjoying getting a lay of the campus and the Triangle area. Having moved quite a bit in my early life as a foreign service officer’s kid, getting to know, understand and immerse myself in new communities and cultures is something I wholeheartedly embrace. My family and I have already visited the North Carolina Museum of Art, had a productive first trip to the farmers market, ate well at a couple local eateries and my son started the first of several summer day camps this week. As you can tell, exploring the Triangle is high on our list. I already have my eye on an upcoming blue crab festival, finding my go-to walking trails, taking in the outdoor music scene and, of course, reading this year’s all-school read Elizabeth Wein’s Code Name Verity. As the product of an all-girls boarding and day school who has also served as an educator in two boarding schools, I am thrilled to be back in a residential community. I am ready to dive right in and looking forward to getting to know you. My family and I are excited about being members of the Saint Mary’s community and getting to experience all the special moments that will make up the upcoming school year. Saint Mary’s and Raleigh are already feeling like home.
In addition to extending a brief greeting from me, I write to you as a follow up to Board Chair Liza Roberts announcement yesterday that Head of School Carol Killebrew is resigning for personal reasons and relocating to Maryland at the end of July. I want to sincerely thank Carol for her leadership, dedication, and service to the Saint Mary’s community these past two years. As Liza wrote, this news may bring up some school-related questions for you. If that is the case, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at psasser@sms.edu so I can be of assistance to you getting answers to questions you may have in preparation for your return to campus this fall.
As you can imagine, with the school year about a month and a half away, preparations for a smooth opening of Saint Mary’s 181st year are already underway. One of the places to go to for your school-related information is our Welcome2SMS website. Here you will find all you need to know about summer reading, health forms, orientation schedules, the calendar and more. Please make sure to check the site throughout the summer as we will be periodically updating it.
Finally, as partners in this journey, I invite you to write to me to share anything you think is important or helpful for us to know about your student, including how your student’s spring and summer went, their school experience to date, hobbies, passions, successes, challenges, important life moments/changes, etc. Their experiences shape so much of who they are and what they bring to our community. Knowing their story helps us as we support them on their journey, one that we are excited to be on with them.
I wish you all the very best and I know I speak for the entire faculty and staff when I say we are truly looking forward to welcoming you back to campus in August.
Applications are now open for the Young Women's Leadership Institute (YWLI) at Saint Mary's School. This all-girls, two-week elite summer camp--in partnership with Duke University--is a certificate program designed to empower high school girls through extensive leadership training and skills enhancement.
