Saint Mary's License Plate Project
Help Us Get a Saint Mary’s License Plate at the DMV!
The Office of Development and Alumnae Relations is asking alumnae, parents, faculty, staff, students, and friends for their help on a very special project for Saint Mary’s!
Representative William (“Billy”) O. Richardson and Saint Mary's parent, Leigh Lawrence (mom of Bel ’20 and Hayden Rizer ’11), are spearheading an effort to present a bill to the North Carolina General Assembly to add Saint Mary’s to the growing list of specialized license plate options available through the North Carolina DMV. The Saint Mary’s license plate would be offered in the same way other schools, colleges, universities, associations, etc., are available. The proposed cost for each plate is $40, half of which will be returned at the end of each fiscal year to Saint Mary’s from the State of North Carolina.
But, we need your support to make this happen!
NO MONEY IS BEING REQUESTED AT THIS TIME. However, to present the bill, Rep. Richardson MUST secure 500 documented commitments by April 13, 2018 from Saint Mary’s alumnae, parents, faculty, staff, friends, and students (of legal driving age) who will commit to purchase the specialized license plate once it becomes available from the NC DMV. If we do NOT have 500 individuals in the State of North Carolina interested in this vanity plate, the bill cannot be submitted.
Once we have 500 commitments, Rep. Richardson will present this documentation, along with the proposed license plate, and his proclamation to introduce the bill. After approval by the Legislature, and after the NC DMV has added the Saint Mary's license plate to their specialized plate options, we will notify Saint Mary’s constituents and provide the website link of where to purchase it. (Please note, all purchases will be handled through normal channels at the NC DMV and ordering your specialized plate will be subject to all regular policies and laws governed by the State of North Carolina.)
