The Varsity Swim States team was in Greensboro for the NCISAA State Championship meet on Mon, Feb 10. The State meet is a qualifying meet, meaning all swimmers in attendance made cuts throughout the season that were fast enough to land them a spot in the final meet. 12 Saints made cuts and represented the school at the season’s Championship meet. It was a long day spent at the Greensboro Aquatic Center – prelims in the morning and finals in the evening. It was all worth it, as the Saints came away from the meet as Runners Up – earning 2nd in the State meet out of 16 total teams!
The Saints showed up with some of the best swims and times of the season, some managing to drop seconds off their lifetime personal bests. Abby Arens ’20 came out with the State title in both of her individual events, the 200 IM and the 100 Breast. Abby also broke BOTH previous State records in each event, topping her own records set last year. With these times, Abby also broke her own school records in each event.
Caroline Crouse ’20 also won both of her individual events, earing her the State title in the 100 fly and the 500 free. Caroline set a new school record in the 500 free with an astounding time of 4:59.79 – a whopping 13 seconds faster than the previous school record!
The Saints relays did supremely well, landing on the podium in all 3 relay events –the 200 medley, 200 free relay, and the 400 free relay. The 200 medley and 400 free relays both won 2nd place, and the 200 free relay won 3rd place. Congratulations to all members of the relay teams! Bowen Gordon ’20, Abby Arens ’20, Caroline Crouse ’20, Hallie Tant ’21, Rachel Lundy ’23, Emily DeRonja ’22, Chelsea Barnes ‘23
