Jennifer Hummel joined Saint Mary’s School faculty in 2017. After graduating from N.C. State University with degrees in biological science and science education, she began her teaching career at Cary High School. She met her husband, Rob, at N.C. State University, and his career carried them to Valdosta, Ga., where she taught at a private, independent school for 15 years. Over the years, she has taught biology, chemistry, physics, earth and environmental science, AP environmental science, biomedical science, and health and P.E.
Her hobbies include running and coaching cross country and track. The Hummels have a daughter, Maggie, who attends Saint Mary’s School.
“What I value most about teaching at Saint Mary’s is the opportunity to teach and to build relationships with the girls,” says Ms. Hummel. “When students feel rapport with their teachers and coaches, motivation is higher, students answer and ask questions more freely and honestly, and as a result the conditions inside and outside of the classroom are primed for learning academic and life lessons.”
